goal and range
This case study aims to present lessons learned and forward-looking perspectives from the capacity development component of the eighth round of grants from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) to Zimbabwe, and prepare for the transition from the United Nations Development Programme to the national entity as the principal recipient. Capacity development is at its core about strengthening the ability of society to respond to the challenges and opportunities it faces. Therefore, the capacity development component of the eighth round of grants has been focused on promoting and supporting the capacity of Zimbabwe, its state and local government institutions, and its civil society organizations to respond sustainably to the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, and preparing for the national entity to manage the Global Fund grant as a principal recipient in due course.
The scope of this case study and lessons learned include:
• Briefly outline the national context and institutional landscape of the health sector in Zimbabwe.
• Outline the capacity challenges identified in Zimbabwe and efforts to address them.
• Present the achievements and lessons learned to date under the capacity building portfolio and make recommendations to help determine the way forward for future Global Fund funding of capacity building in Zimbabwe.
