The head of the United Nations Palestine refugee agency (UNRWA), Filippo Lazzarini, said on Tuesday that an average of 10 children a day in the Gaza Strip lose one or both legs.
“Overall, we have an average of 10 children a day who lose one or two legs,” the official told a news conference in Geneva, adding that the figure did not include children who had lost an arm or a hand.
On the other hand, Lazzarini warned that UNRWA only has the funds needed for operations “until the end of August.”
The UN agency, which plays a vital role in helping people in the Gaza Strip, saw its funding slashed on October 7 after Israel accused some of its 13,000 staff in the region of taking part in Hamas attacks on Israeli territory.
