Somalia CCM – Helping ICU patients understand HMC goals of care

The Community Outcall Program will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in May 2024. As part of the celebrations, we have produced a series of short videos highlighting each member of the Community Outcall Team.

This is a short video featuring Anab Abdullahi, Harborview Medical Center’s Somali Caseworker Cultural Mediator (CCM). Anab describes her role working with Somali patients to guide them through Harborview Medical Center’s ICU and inpatient services. Anab helps patients and providers understand goals of care and guides everyone to reach a common understanding. Anab builds trust with patients so that she can intervene early to avoid long and costly hospital stays.
