NIA Charleston Nevis The Nevis Island Authority (NIA) is acquiring approximately 30 acres of land in St James Parish to be sold to nationals living in Nevis and in the diaspora.

“this “The government is in the final stages of acquiring some of the land in the Garners Estate, which is over 30 acres,” Nevis Prime Minister Mark Brantley said at a news conference on June 19. “That land will be subdivided and we will sell it to citizens (here) and overseas.”

The land will be sold through the Nevis Land and Housing Development Corporation (NHLDC), and Premier Brantley said first-time landowners will be given priority.

“By law, as you probably know, government land is for nationals only … so yes, nationals can expect that. You asked if we would give priority to people on the island. Obviously, I guess they would naturally be given priority because they are on the island, but we would make that available to all of our people, especially those who are here and overseas – all of our people, but especially those who are first-time buyers because that is important as well,” he said.

Prime Minister Brantley called on expatriate nationals and people of Nevis descent to seek to purchase the lands, describing the Garners Estate as a beautiful hillside area with stunning views of the coastline and ocean.

“The government acquired this land so that people can invest, get a stake, own a share. We hope people will find it attractive.

“As always, the government will try to price the land at a price that is acceptable to our people.”

NHLDC will release details including price and lot size to the public soon.
