Maximilian Araujo, Darwin Nunez and Matias Weiner scored as Uruguay beat Panama 3-1 in a Copa America Group C match in Florida on Sunday.

Uruguay, a 15-time Copa America champion, was rewarded for its blistering pace in the 16th minute when Araujo curled a superb curling shot from the edge of the box.

After the half-time break, Panama gradually got into the game and wasted several chances to equalize the score until the 85th minute, when Nunez calmly volleyed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal, stabilizing Uruguay’s morale.

In a fierce battle in stoppage time, Weiner leapt high to head in Uruguay’s third goal from a set-piece before Michael Amir Murillo scored a consolation goal for Panama.

In another Group C match that day, the United States defeated Bolivia 2-0.
