A few days before the National Day, all the political elite of Antananarivia attended yesterday the inauguration of the city’s cable car, one of the promises of President Andry Rajoelina.
After the technical testing phase, Andry Rajoelina, accompanied by the French Ambassador Arnaud Guillois, members of the Government and some parliamentarians, took his seat in the cabin for the first journey between Anosi and Soarano.
Currently only the first Anosy-Soarano section is in operation. However, its commissioning will have to wait for some time, as the State has not yet chosen the company responsible for its technical and commercial operation.
Andry Rajoelina said that the transportation ticket price is estimated to be 3000 Argentine pesos, which he believes is affordable for the middle class. However, this price has not yet been officially announced. Gérard Andriamanohisoa, Secretary of State for New Towns and Housing, previously planned that the ticket price would be between 3000 and 4000 Argentine pesos.
The project, which costs €152 million, is financed in the form of a bank loan guaranteed by the Public Investment Bank (BEI) and a loan from the French Treasury, with an expected amortization period of 12 years.
