The White House is concerned that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may use a speech to Congress next month to criticize U.S. President Joe Biden and accuse him of not giving enough support to Israel in its war with Hamas, Politico reported on Saturday. Netanyahu has received a bipartisan invitation to address the joint session scheduled for July 24.
Netanyahu said he told U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken that it was “unthinkable” that Washington had “withheld weapons and ammunition” from Israel over the past few months.
Netanyahu did not receive an invitation to visit the White House while in Washington but may receive one, Politico reported, saying it would be “too much” for Netanyahu not to invite the prime minister to meet with Biden. Some Democratic lawmakers have already said they plan to skip the speech.
The White House said Netanyahu’s claim that the United States was providing weapons was “incorrect.”
