The National Women’s Commission headed by Dr. Maya Murthy and all its members congratulated the family of the film “I Lift My Eyes to Heaven” after it won the Golden Eye Award for Best Documentary at the Cannes International Film Festival. No. 77 of this session.
Dr. Maya Morsi expressed her happiness and pride at the film’s great success and winning the award, which is also the first Egyptian film to win the award since its inception.
The Chairperson of the National Commission for Women praised the idea of the production, which tells the story of a group of girls working to revive popular folklore in a village in Minya Governorate through street theatre, and the role they play in highlighting many important issues such as early marriage, domestic violence, and girls’ education.
It is worth noting that the film “I Lift My Eyes to the Sky” was directed by Nada Riad and Ayman Amir and produced by Feluca Films.
The Upper Egypt Panorama Barsha theatre group stars Magda Masoud, Heidi Sameh, Monica Youssef, Marina Samir, Maryam Nassar, Lydia Haroun and group founder Justina Samir.
The film received a warm response at its world premiere in the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week Competition, attended by the director, the crew and the leading actresses of the “Panorama Barca” team, and received rave reviews locally. Arab and international critics have given the film rave reviews, and international newspapers have also covered the film, including: Variety World and Screen Daily.
