ST. KITTS AND NEVIS (WINN) – On Monday, June 17, school safety officers from across the Commonwealth attended the opening ceremony of the School Safety Induction Course hosted by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conference room.
Chief Education Officer Francil Morris stressed the importance of the training. “This week-long training program reflects our Ministry’s commitment to equipping school personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain a safe learning environment. We thank CDEMA, Mr. Khodra and our partners for their support in strengthening school safety,” said Morris.
Bernez Khodra, CDEMA Safe Schools Senior Project Officer and Course Facilitator, outlined the objectives of the course. “The Safe Schools programme is in line with CDEMA’s strategic plan to reduce vulnerability and enhance resilience in the education sector. Participants will serve as ambassadors for the Safe Schools programme and may become trainers to ensure its sustainability,” Khodra explained.
Khodra thanked partners, including the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education and the School Safety Team. “Their dedication ensured that participants gained the knowledge and skills to contribute positively to their schools and communities. We are also grateful for the support of the National Disaster Office, UNICEF, the Caribbean Development Bank, the Government of Norway and other stakeholders,” added Khodra.
The Safe Schools training course began on Monday, June 17 and ended on Friday, June 21.
