Palau’s electoral commission has certified the winners for elected positions in Kayangol and Hatobe states, both of which saw slim contests for legislative seats and the governor’s office.
Both states have a rare few candidates. In Kayangol state, incumbent Governor Richard Ngiraked is not contesting. Of the 12 seats in the legislature, only 13 candidates are running, leaving only one seat contested.
There was only one candidate for the governorship of the state of Hatobe. Ray Marino received 62 votes out of 71. Jacqueline Victor, the only candidate for the lieutenant governorship, also won without much suspense.
In the Hatohobei legislature, nine candidates contested for nine seats. As there was no competition, all nine were elected and certified as legislators for the state. (By LN Reklai)
