Cambodian government plans to spend more than $9 billion and raise more than $7 billion by 2025

In the framework of Cambodia’s government revenue and expenditure in 2025, the government plans to spend the most national budget in the social sector, about US$2.6 billion, accounting for 31.04% of the total budget of more than US$9 billion. The Ministry of Economy explained that the huge expenditure in the social sector is due to the government’s desire to strengthen the education sector, develop skills that meet market needs, improve the quality of the health sector, promote the implementation of national policy plans, social protection, as well as culture, environment and religion.

The economy is dominated by the financial, industrial and commercial sectors, with the government expected to spend about $1.9 billion, or 22.99% of the total budget for 2025. In terms of defense, security and public order, the government plans to spend $1.3 billion, or 16.37% of total annual expenditures, while the general executive sector plans to spend more than $834 million, or 9.86% of the total annual budget.

Another $1.6 billion will be allocated to areas where it is needed during implementation. At the same time, the government will prepare spending on local administrations, with a planned expenditure of 2.03% of gross domestic product (GDP), including subsidies to local administrations, which account for 0.84% ​​of GDP. In addition to the government spending plans at the national and local levels, the government has also raised its forecast for state revenue by $7.6 billion in 2025.

Mr. Yang Jinying, Chairman of the People’s Center for Development and Peace, called on the government to use the national budget transparently and effectively and avoid abusing the national budget to meet personal needs rather than national interests.
