AMMAN: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq returned home from Jordan on Thursday after concluding a two-day state visit.
During the visit, His Majesty the Sultan met with the King of Jordan at the King’s residence at Amman Nadwa Palace in the capital and held cordial talks on the advanced relations between the two countries.
The two countries issued a joint statement.
The leaders of the two countries stressed that the two countries should continue to develop cooperation in various fields, continue to implement the agreements, memorandums of understanding and implementation plans signed by the two countries, and translate them into practical steps that are in the interests of the two countries, strengthen communication and mutual visits among all relevant parties of the two countries, explore and follow up more cooperation opportunities, and push them to a broader and broader prospect.
The two leaders reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue and the need to reach a just solution that ends the occupation and realizes all the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, and welcomed the decision of Norway, Ireland and Spain to recognize the State of Palestine as an important and necessary step in confirming that the path to peace is the only way to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region, based on the principles of the two States of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and in accordance with the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The two Majesties discussed the development of the war of aggression in Gaza and stressed that the international community must assume its responsibility to stop the war and that the Security Council must decide on an immediate ceasefire, protect civilians, ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance by all possible means and prevent the situation from further escalating.
The two leaders stressed the need to continue to provide necessary support to the Palestine Refugee Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to enable it to play its key and indispensable role under the UN mandate, while expressing their rejection, condemnation and warning of all actions that lead to the expansion of war in the region.
His Majesty expressed his opposition to attempts to separate the Gaza Strip from the occupied West Bank, which is an extension of the State of Palestine, and to attempts to drive Palestinians from their homes, warning that Israel will continue its dangerous escalatory measures in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, and escalating attacks by terrorist settlers on Palestinians and humanitarian aid convoys.
The two leaders stressed the importance of preserving the existing historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Gaza, and His Majesty the Sultan expressed appreciation for the efforts of his brother, His Majesty the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, to take care of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and preserve their historical character, as well as the role of the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Affairs and Islamic Holy Sites, Jerusalem Endowment and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs, the authorized body responsible for the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Holy Temple, a place dedicated to Muslim worship.
