Participants of the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland issued a joint communiqué on the foundations of peace. The Ukrainian presidential office reported the news.
They reaffirmed their commitment not to use the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state and to abide by the principles of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all states, including Ukraine.
Participants said they shared a common vision in the following key areas:
1. Any use of nuclear energy and nuclear facilities must be safe, reliable, reliably protected and environmentally friendly.
Ukrainian nuclear power plants and facilities, in particular the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, must be operated safely and securely under Ukraine’s full sovereign control and in accordance with IAEA principles and under its supervision.
Participants in the peace summit noted that any threat or use of nuclear weapons in a war in Ukraine would be unacceptable.
2. Global food security depends on the uninterrupted production and supply of food. In this regard, free, unbroken and secure commercial shipping and access to seaports on the Black and Azov Seas are of vital importance.
Attacks on ports and commercial shipping along shipping routes, as well as civilian ports and civilian port infrastructure, are unacceptable.
Food security must never be used as a weapon. Ukrainian agricultural products must be securely and freely available to interested third countries.
3. All prisoners of war must be released in full exchange. All deported and illegally displaced Ukrainian children and all other illegally detained Ukrainian civilians must return to Ukraine.
The communiqué said: “We believe that achieving peace requires contact and dialogue among all parties, so we have decided to take specific measures in the above-mentioned areas in the future with the participation of representatives of all parties.”
The participants noted that the Charter of the United Nations, including the principle of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all States, can and must serve as the basis for achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
The final declaration of the Global Peace Summit held in Switzerland was signed by 80 countries and four organizations. The United Arab Emirates, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Indonesia, South Africa and Thailand did not sign.
