Muscat: Omani blue badge referee Aisha Saidi has been selected to referee the 2024 WTT Junior Challenge Luxembourg, which kicked off on Wednesday at the Luxembourg National Sports and Cultural Centre. Aisha, who received her blue badge in March 2022, has participated in many WTT events, most recently refereeing the 2024 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships in Busan, South Korea, last February.
She has also refereed numerous other tournaments including: the WTT Stars Championship in Lanzhou, China, the Virtus Global Games in Vichy, France and the 2022 ITTF World Junior Championships in Tunisia. The four-day event in Luxembourg included several events including: U19, U17, U15, U13 and U11 men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles. The Omani referee from Saham officiated in most categories including the knockout stages.

Al Saidi started her refereeing career in 2016 through some international refereeing courses organized by the Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA). She then progressed and successfully obtained the international refereeing grade and obtained the blue badge in March 2022.
OTTA is very keen on providing the right environment for the development and improvement of national referees and providing opportunities for national referees to participate in regional, continental and international events.
Omani referees have gained the required technical experience over the past few years and have performed well in different top table tennis events. Some international Omani referees are expected to participate in the upcoming major table tennis events, including the ITTF World Masters Championships to be held in Rome, Italy in July this year, as the Sultanate of Oman hosted the previous edition in Muscat in 2022.
