When the popular Splash Mountain ride at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom was canceled, many devoted Disney fans frowned.Disney World) is being phased out. But don’t worry, it just has a new look and theme, Cajun style.
The theme park’s former Splash Mountain space is now home to a brand new attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, based on the characters from the 2009 Disney animated film The Princess and the Frog.
The ride itself is set one year after the events of the film and follows Tiana’s life after she opens her dream restaurant, with the princess teaming up with community members to open a new business, Tiana’s Foods. Throughout the journey through the bayou, riders will see Tiana, Louis the Alligator, and other characters prepare for Mardi Gras festivities, all while playing original music and songs inspired by the film.

For Dustin Eschenrod, production designer for Walt Disney Imagineering, transforming the old Splash Mountain space into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure required a lot of planning. One aspect of this was repurposing the existing mountain structure, including using force perspective (which Disney parks use to create the optical illusion of height)—but in reverse.

“It’s really about transformation,” Eschenrod said. “We looked at the top of the mountain and used slightly larger flowers than we would have at the bottom, just to try to minimize the scale and focus on the estuary.”
Eschenrod said adding the Tiana Foods water tower and cypress trees helped to highlight the bayou, where the story takes place.
The production designer was part of a team that traveled to New Orleans to conduct extensive research to ensure the attraction would remain true to the culture of the Southern city. Everything from history to fashion, architecture to music was researched.
He said “Tianna’s Bayou Adventure” is a love letter to New Orleans and Mardi Gras.
“People were very generous with their time and their stories,” Eschenrod said. “I think we did it justice.”

The Evolution of Epcot
There is more to this transformation than meets the eye.
After years, the construction walls have been torn down and the final finishing touches are being put on the redesign of Walt Disney World’s Epcot theme park.
The renovation was completed on June 10, with the official opening of the Communicore Plaza, an outdoor gathering space, and the Hall, a multi-activity facility.
In addition to the new facilities, Epcot unveiled the World Celebration Garden, an outdoor space with seating and greenery inspired by the park’s original design. At the center of the garden is a statue of “Walt the Dreamer,” the founder of Disney, Walt Disney, watching his creations evolve.

Disney’s original vision for Epcot was for it to be “perpetually evolving,” and the company has worked to gradually modernize Epcot over the years. When the park opened in 1982, it was designed to celebrate human achievement, world culture, and technological innovation.

The American Adventure Hall features an exhibit called “Portraits of Courage,” which features 60 portraits of active and veteran U.S. military personnel painted by former President George W. Bush. The tagline reads: “The Commander in Chief Salutes America’s Warriors.”
To coincide with Epcot’s presentation, a new evening fireworks show is designed to bring people together around World Showcase Lake. “Streamers: Our Symphony” combines fireworks, fountains and lights set to classic Disney tunes.
