Olympic all-around champion Jennifer Valente has been selected to the six-member U.S. track cycling team for the Paris Olympics, USA Cycling said Thursday.
The 29-year-old recovered from a late crash in the Tokyo omnium to win the United States’ first women’s track cycling gold medal and took bronze in the team pursuit.
Valente won a silver medal in the team pursuit at the 2016 Rio Olympics and will compete in the team pursuit, madison and all-around events in Paris.
“The Olympics have always been special to me and this one is just as fascinating,” Valente said Thursday.
“The trip to Paris is a unique experience in itself, with new challenges ahead of me in this shortened four-setter. I’m excited to play alongside long-time teammates and some new faces.”
Valente will team up with Lily Williams, Chloe Dygert, Kristen Faulkner and debutant Olivia Cummings in the women’s team pursuit. She will also partner Williams in the Madison event.
Grant Koontz will be the only American male competitor in the Paris track cycling event in the men’s omnium.
The track cycling event will be held at the Paris National Velodrome from August 5 to 11.
