Czech restaurant fined for banning children
The Stodola restaurant in Prague was fined 50,000 crowns for not allowing people under 18 to visit the main building, iDnes reported.
An employee of the Czech Ministry of Trade was banned from entering the restaurant with his child because of a sign on the restaurant’s door: “Under 18? Go to the playground.” The restaurant also reportedly said it only accepted cash. Correspondent.
The restaurant owner explained that such a sign is a sign that could result in a hefty fine for selling alcohol and tobacco to minors. The restaurant belongs to the American Smokers Club, so smoking is allowed inside. “We want to be an adult bar, and we are sure that what we are doing is legal,” the restaurant said.
However, such arguments did not convince the Czech Trade Inspectorate. If the fine is not paid, the company will face confiscation of its equipment.
In the Czech Republic, there are many establishments where children are prohibited from entering. Generally, these are high-end establishments. Accordingly, the penalty imposed on Stodol Restaurant may serve as a precedent for them.
