Esteban Alvarado There is a special duel with Alajuelens, Especially with his fans. In the final classic, he even dared to dance with them. Every time the goalkeeper visited Moreira Soto and was on the field, he put on his own show: the competition transcended the color and added the extra ingredient that he had in the passage of Manu Dos’ frustration.
Alvarado was outstanding in the final three and a half months ago, even though he played almost on one leg, and on Sunday he was once again Saprissa’s great figure, pulling off an impressive save in a 1-1 draw.
The first and best was against Alexis Gamboa, in which he showed his reflexes and resilience. His intervention in the first half was so good that he turned to the fans and did some dance moves in a provocative gesture.
The goalkeeper commented: FuTV: “You have to enjoy life, as Celia Cruz said, life is a party.”
The goalkeeper made seven saves in total, flying in to save the day despite having a hernia in his back. Of his interventions, two stood out in the second half: the first by Anderson Cardozo and the second, even more striking, by Jonathan Moya.
In the latter, Alvarado showed off his good reading of the game and excellent positioning, blocking a shot from close range in a small area. The Tibaños starting goalkeeper attributed his good moments to his enjoyment of every match:
“All the competitions are very special, especially because this could be my last season and I’m playing with a team that I really like, which is Saprissa. I don’t think this is my best version; I still have a lot of room for improvement and I have to stay humble and persevere.”
Although he couldn’t stop Cardozo from scoring, no one could take away his honor as the team’s best player. Era Alvarado sincerely admitted that life with Moreira was not easy and gave a lot of credit to his opponent.
“Alajuelense are a great team and it was complicated to come to Moreira, but we are Saprissa and we showed character. We had to make defensive stops and it worked, so I congratulate my teammates because it was not easy. We leave with a bittersweet feeling that we lost two points instead of winning one.”
After Kevin Chamorro left Portuguese football, Esteban Alvarado took over the Saprissa team for the 2024 Open Championship. Although he was a substitute in the first few seasons, he found a way to shine.
Just last May 22, he was the hero of the purple team’s victory in the first leg of the Moreira final (1-0 loss, 3-0 win in the second leg). On that occasion, Esteban came on as a substitute and ended up with a leg injury that required stitches on the field, but even so, he was still the same character. It was largely thanks to his performance that the monster was crowned in the cave.
