During a solemn ceremony held in the courtyard of the Higher School of Civil Protection (ISEP), Lieutenant Colonel Rasmane Wango officially received the torch of his new position as Commander of the National Fire Support and Rescue Brigade (GAS). It is now his responsibility to lead this force to fulfill the mission entrusted to it. Friday, August 30, 2024, in Ouagadougou, in the presence of Lieutenant Colonel Naon Daba, Commander of the BNSP.
Lieutenant Colonel Lasmane Wango, who is taking on the role of Commander of the Group Support and Recovery (GAS) for the first time, expressed his gratitude to those who had the faith in him to appoint him to the command position.
Because the desire of every officer is to exercise command, but to bear in mind the responsibilities that flow from it, because difficult and exciting tasks await him, and these cannot be “unspoiled,” he said, while ensuring his commitment to do everything possible to live up to the trust placed in him.
Another issue the lieutenant colonel mentioned was the support of his seniors and collaborators. He said he counted on everyone to build a GAS that could improve BNSP’s professional intervention capabilities in an ever-changing environment, and that everyone’s personal investment would make this group the embodiment of the engineer firefighter’s ethics.
The new Commander-in-Chief concluded his speech by advising everyone to constantly examine themselves and strive for excellence in the execution of their mission so that they can hold high the torch of this institution and make it a lasting place.
Lieutenant Colonel Nahon Daba, commander of the BNSP, also spoke at the ceremony, recalling that the political and military authorities saw fit to form seven fire brigades, including five fire and rescue brigades, one for support and rescue and one for training, appointing three managers. “They are established throughout the territory and bring together a certain number of fire companies or specialized companies throughout the territory to form groups. It is in this sense that new brigade commanders took office, including Lieutenant Colonel Lasmane Wango of GAS,” he advised.

It is important to remember that the man in question is a multidisciplinary graduate. He holds a Masters degree in International Strategic and Military Studies, a professional license in Civil Defence, and a diploma in firefighter investigations.
In terms of status, this person has not yet risen to prominence. He has held various positions, including leader of the planning team, leader of the training team of the Integrated Operations Center, and commander of the first fire and rescue company of the National Security Agency of Ouagadougou.
