Investigators have released a photo of a 27-year-old woman who was found murdered inside a downtown home that caught fire last week.

Toronto police say the fire happened in at College St. and Dovercourt R. just after 12 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters rescued a man and a woman who lived in the same room from the burning house.
The woman was found with “traumatic injuries” and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The man was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
The victim was later confirmed at the homicide scene to be Toronto resident Jessica Perez Ocampo, the 55th murder victim in Toronto this year.
The deceased was identified as Roberto Mendez, 27, of Toronto.

Cyclist dies a week after being hit by car in Etobicoke
A 26-year-old woman has died a week after she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Etobicoke.
Toronto police said the collision occurred just after 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 24 near Kipling Ave. and Burnhamthorpe Rd.
Police said the woman was riding her bicycle west on Burnhamthorpe Road, east of the intersection, when she was struck by a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 28-year-old man traveling west.
The cyclist was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Police said she died at the hospital on Saturday.
The investigation is still ongoing.

Unidentified man wanted for multiple sexual assaults on TTC
Investigators need help identifying a man suspected of sexually assaulting TTC passengers on multiple occasions.
Toronto police say the most recent incident allegedly occurred on Aug. 23 around 7 p.m. near Ossington Ave. and Dundas St. W.
In a statement released on Saturday, police said a man approached the victim on the tram, “exposed himself and sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the area,” adding that the victim did not know the man.
Police believe the same man sexually assaulted another passenger on a TTC subway near Queen Street West and University Avenue just after 10 a.m. on Aug. 6.
The same man is also believed to have exposed himself to another victim on a TTC subway on July 12.

Investigators have now released surveillance video of the suspect in the hope that the public will recognize him and come forward.
The suspect is described as six feet tall, of medium build, with short hair and a black beard.
He was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, dark blue jeans, a black baseball cap and carrying a backpack.

35-year-old man charged with indecent assault at High Park swimming pool
The Toronto Police Service is informing the public about an arrest in an indecent assault investigation.
On Friday, August 30, 2024 at 4:20 p.m., police received a call reporting an indecent exposure at the High Park Pool near High Park Ave. and Bloor St. W.

Police arrived and arrested the suspect
Maseehullah Stanikzai, 35, of Toronto, has been charged with committing an indecent act and uttering threats.
Investigators are concerned there may be other victims, so they released photos of the accused.
They are also looking for witnesses who left the area before police arrived.

Pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle on Highway 410 in Brampton

The provincial police watchdog has been asked to investigate after a woman was struck and killed by a car on a busy Brampton highway early Saturday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police say the pedestrian was struck in the southbound lanes of the 410 Freeway at Steeles Ave. E around 7:40 a.m.
A news release from Peel Regional Police on X confirmed that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and that the Ontario Special Investigations Unit “has initiated an investigation.”
But it was not immediately clear why the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates serious police casualties, was called in.
Peel police say the investigation is ongoing.

Shooting victim taken to Toronto hospital
A man walked into a hospital on the city’s west side Saturday afternoon with a gunshot wound.

Toronto police said the shooting victim showed up at the hospital near Jane St. and Eglinton Ave. W. around 3 p.m.
The man was reportedly in critical condition and was rushed to a trauma center.
But his injuries are not life-threatening.
It was unclear where the shooting took place and no further details were immediately released.

A driver has been charged with driving under the influence after a rollover crash in Etobicoke left two people injured Saturday morning.
Toronto police said officers responded to a rollover accident at around 4:30 a.m. in the area of Dixon Rd. and Hwy. 27.
Emergency crews had to rescue the driver and a passenger.
The driver and passenger were taken to hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Police injured
Two police officers were injured while arresting a suspected drunk driver on the city’s west side Friday night.
Toronto police said officers were called to the area of Rogers Road and Regent Street (east of Keele Street) around 9:40 p.m. after a motorist struck a parked vehicle.
The diver, whose name was not immediately released, then allegedly assaulted another man at the scene.
Police said two officers were injured while arresting the man, who was allegedly intoxicated, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
