The Executive Committee of the Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) held its ordinary general meeting on Saturday, August 31, 2024, with the main agenda being the renewal of the football authorities in Burkina Faso. As expected, the only candidate, Major Oumarou Sawadogo, was elected President of the FBF with 203 votes out of 210 voters.

The Zemes-Taba meeting room of the Burkina Faso Football Federation hosted the ordinary electoral congress of the Burkina Faso Football Federation this Saturday, August 31, 2024. As the only candidate for the post of President, it is no surprise that Major Oumarou Sawadogo was appointed as the head of the FBF.

He will now preside over the fate of the FBF for the next four years. He was elected at the Ordinary General Assembly with 203 votes out of 210 voters (99.02). The handover will take place in the coming days.

He concluded by stating that this mission is a wide-open mission, a duty to serve and, above all, to serve Burkina Faso football until 2028. It is a call for consensus and commitment among football stakeholders to move away from separatist practices and attitudes in the creation of football governance structures. It is also a recognition of the FreeFoot initiative and of the ethical values of football management that we promote. ”

Ahead of the FBF Executive Committee transition, the outgoing President thanked the Organising Committee and the Committee responsible for formulating the AGM. He congratulated the Election Committee and the Appeal Committee for the professionalism and rigour they have shown in the election process so far.

“To the future FBF President and his team, I wish them good luck, success, wisdom, resilience and vision in the management of the FBF,” he wished before noting the rigour of the AG statutory members’ scrutiny of the documents submitted to them for a successful election.

He concluded by saying: “I sincerely wish for federal reconciliation, collaborative work, unity and concerted action.”

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Sports said that this AG is held against the backdrop of the difficulties that Burkina Faso football has recently experienced due to misunderstandings among some key players. Unfortunately, these misunderstandings have had a negative impact on the progress of some activities.

“We will always remember that the A-League was suspended twice. This so-called crisis has had a favorable outcome. I am particularly happy to now see all the players in our football world gathered around the same table,” he pointed out.

He therefore expressed his gratitude to all the actors involved in finding solutions to the various crises. He also congratulated the candidates for the great spirit that allowed them to reach consensus and safeguard the interests of Burkina Faso football.

Finally, he thanked the outgoing president and his team for the achievements and innovations achieved during his term. The AG was attended by the Regional Director of the FIFA Dakar Office and the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football.
