Egyptls Ampe (Voor U) resigns as Brussels city councillor for “family reasons”. “After 20 years in parliament and 18 in the city council, it’s time to prioritize my family,” the former Open VLD member said on X (ex Twitter). She hopes to pass the torch to Ana Kazemi, who ranked sixth on the bilingual MR+ list for the October 13 municipal elections in Brussels, led by David Weytsman (MR).

Els Ampe has been in the Brussels City Council since 2006 and was a city councillor from 2013 to 2018. After leaving Open VLD in 2023, she founded the Voor U (For You) party. But the party did not reach the electoral threshold in the federal and regional elections on June 9, so Els Ampe is no longer in the Brussels Parliament, where she had served since 2004.

The politician will now end her term as city councillor. “For family reasons, I will not be able to participate in the city council for the next three months. An empty seat is not good for anyone, that’s why I am resigning,” Els Ampe explained on X. “You can always count on my political support, no longer as a representative, but as a volunteer. »

The now former city councillor handed over the baton to Ana Kazemi, also a member of Voor U, who, Els Ampe commented, “is a woman with common sense and the right heart”. Ana Kazemi will appear on the list for the municipal elections for the first time. She ranks sixth on the liberal bilingual MR+ list.
