(British Virgin Islands) Dame Janice Pereira, former Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), has been appointed to the Privy Council.
This prestigious appointment, approved by the King, is a recognition of her exemplary service and marks another historic milestone in her distinguished career.
In yesterday’s announcement, the King also approved the appointments of Baroness Ellen Morgan, First Minister of Wales, and John Sweeney, First Minister of Scotland, to the Privy Council.
Dame Pereira, who hails from Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, has long been a pioneer in the legal field. She made history in 2012 as the first female Chief Justice of Europe’s highest court. During her tenure, she has worked to modernize the justice system, in particular through the implementation of digital justice platforms. These innovations have ensured the continued accessibility and efficiency of the justice system, even in the face of challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
