The funeral for the late Deputy Mayor of Vermeer began at the church at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Two weeks ago, the news of Max Hengel’s death deeply affected Luxembourg politics. On Friday, the CSV deputy and mayor of Wilmer said goodbye at his municipality.

The church in Wilmer was apparently too small. More than 500 people watched the ceremony inside and outside the church on screens, accompanied by musical elements and a choir. During the ceremony, many different speakers remembered the memory of Deputy Mayor, colleague, friend and family member Max Hengel.

When a cat is dragged across the Moselle, Max Hengel is there, content with people, helpful, loyal, fair and optimistic until the very end. This is how Max Hengel is described, and in recent years his influence in the Misele region has been unrivalled.

Even national politicians had some on hand. Among them, CSV Chamber of Commerce President Claude Wiseler paid tribute to politician and friend Max Hengel, who always gave others his honest opinion to help achieve this goal.

After the ceremony, everyone was invited to have a drink at the Wuermo Cultural Center.Max Hengel’s life is remembered through photos.

Max Hengel was only 47 years old at the time.
