ST. KITTS AND NEVIS (WINN): Assistant Commissioner of Police Andre Mitchell confirmed that the case involving Dijon Warner and Brian Pacquette will go to court.
“The individuals involved have been committed for trial. The case has proceeded to the pre-trial stage and is now before the High Court,” Mitchell said.
On June 23, 2016, Dominican police officer Brian Pacquette was shot in the leg while responding to a burglary. He was taken to Trinidad for treatment and the leg was amputated. Pacquette died on July 18, 2016. His mother, Yvonne Harris, has been campaigning for justice for her son on social media.
In 2018, St. Kitts police issued a warrant for Dijon Warner, who was wanted for manslaughter in connection with Paquet’s death. However, he had fled St. Kitts for the United States in 2016.
On November 29, 2023, Warner was deported to St. Kitts after serving five years in a U.S. detention center. He was immediately detained by the police.
A senior police officer told WINN FM that the matter is likely to be heard at the September 2024 circuit court.
