Details of the 2,500 new taxis, which were unanimously accepted by the Transport Coordination Centre (UKOME), have started to become clear. The colour and design of the 2,500 new taxis will be determined by UKOME. There will be a safety barrier between the taxi drivers and passengers.
Taxi drivers will be certified through training at the IMM Transport Academy. Passengers using taxis will not be charged any commission or additional fees through the apps they use. Taxis will be able to hold an operating license, which must be renewed annually with the approval of the Vehicle Service Quality Compliance Control (TAHKUK).
Anyone who is eligible for a license can apply
All real and legal persons who want to provide taxi call services in Istanbul through online mobile applications can apply for an Electronic Transport Management License from the IMM. The eligibility of the applicant will be determined within the scope of the Taxi Transport Directive.
Minimum qualifications for licensing
In all currently licensed mobile applications, the membership start and end information of system member carriers and drivers, trip start location and time information, trip end location and time information, trip fare information, trip suggestions used by passengers within the scope of the service, and complaint and rating information will be shared with the IMM on a regular basis. All real persons and legal persons applying for a license must have at least these qualifications.
Current application status
According to the information in the IMM statement, there are 3 companies with IMM-issued licenses as of 2023. In addition, there are 3 companies whose applications are still being evaluated. Once the request and web service process required by the directive is completed, these companies will be able to obtain a license by paying the fees determined by the IMM General Assembly.
