In Ljubljana, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation is planning to build a new student dormitory with 380 beds along Roška cesta to solve space problems for students. In July this year, the government approved the purchase of Barka 2 Student Dormitory in Koper, which together with the renovation costs will cost 6.2 million euros. An additional 118 beds will be available for male and female students in the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year.

The ministry explained that, while there is a shortage of student beds in Ljubljana and Slovenian Istria County, there have not been long queues in student halls of residence at the University of Maribor in recent years.

The start of construction of the new student residence has been delayed due to the complexity of the procedure, namely the adoption of the Municipal Space Act, the holding of an architectural competition, the creation of project documentation, and the preparation of the project’s phases and available financial resources, the ministry explained.

However, they stressed that the government adopted a strategy and action plan for greening educational and research infrastructure in the area of ​​investment last August. The main objectives of the strategy and plan by 2030 are to completely renovate buildings, eliminate space shortages and establish modern equipment.
