U.S. officials, including Blinken, have violated and ignored clear U.S. law regarding the use of defensive weapons in offensive operations that indiscriminately kill children and women. No wonder Americans who oppose Israel’s war on Gaza have called for an arms embargo on a country accused of war crimes and possible genocide. Even President Biden agreed with the protesters outside the Democratic convention but did not make a decision on an arms embargo. Of course, the White House faces domestic pressure, but this is precisely why the United States is in the difficult position of being both an ally and a neutral arbiter.

The Biden administration is also violating U.S. law that prohibits funding to any government that impedes the delivery of basic humanitarian supplies. This is what is happening in Gaza, and U.S. officials are not insisting on honest enforcement of U.S. law. The Americans are also abandoning their trusted Arab allies as the Israelis insist on violating the U.S.-initiated 1977 Camp David Accords and subsequent annexes to the U.S.-supervised 1993 Declaration of Principles. The presence of Israeli troops in the Philadelphia Corridor between Egypt and Gaza is a clear violation of these agreements, but the United States is allowing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to suggest that Israel only needs to withdraw one kilometer from the 14-kilometer-long border area. Instead, Washington should stand by its Egyptian ally and support the signed peace agreement.

Efforts to reach a ceasefire also failed because of the way the negotiations were conducted and the propaganda. The powerful media machines of the United States and Israel have repeatedly claimed that Hamas was the party that rejected the latest ceasefire proposal. However, a careful reading of the official statements of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) shows that they had actually accepted Biden’s earlier proposal, which was also approved by the UN Security Council.
