At the last IMM congress in June, parking and dormitory fees in Istanbul were raised.
Dormitory fees, which are 1,300 liras per month (including meals), have increased by 50 percent to 1,950 liras. The new dormitory fees came into effect on September 1. Fees for parking lots operated by ISERK have increased by 35 percent.
The AKP bloc voted against a temporary increase in 2024 tariffs six months later.
New tariffs
In the first and second zones, the one-hour parking fee increased from 52 lira to 70 lira, and the one-day parking fee increased from 202 lira to 270 lira.
In the third region, which includes Adalar, Arnavutkoy, Gatarka and Esenler, the hourly wage increased from 36 liras to 50 liras, and the daily wage increased from 146 liras to 195 liras.
The entry fee for cars to forests and recreational areas increased from 104 liras to 141 liras.
The one-hour bicycle rental fee has increased from 22 lira to 44 lira. The one-hour parking fee has increased from 844 lira to 1,140 lira.
There is tension over “apology”
During the decision vote, tensions arose because the new tariffs were not added to the committee report.
The CHP group announced that the tariff had been awarded to the members of the Council. The AKP group also said that the tariff should be made visible to all Council members, who have no idea what they are currently voting for.
AKP Council member Mehmet Kaynar wanted to talk about the voting procedure. When CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ülkü Sakalar said that the AKP Group spokesperson should be allowed to speak on the issue, Kaynar shouted, “What’s it to you?” A verbal altercation then broke out between Council members.
After a long discussion, Kenar said: “The fact is that no one heard what they said. They spoke as if we had said something harsh. I said “What’s your business”, meaning it’s none of your business. “If this was taken as an insult, I apologize,” he said.
