Former Samburu Governor Moses Lenokural will appear in court again today to submit a motion for commutation of sentence before sentencing.
Lenokular was found guilty of corruption on Wednesday for accepting Sh83.3 million worth of petroleum products while he was the Samburu County Governor.
Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki said from the evidence presented by prosecutors in court, there was no doubt that Lenokural and his agent, Hesbon Ndathi, were the ultimate beneficiaries of those public funds.
He said there was overwhelming evidence that Lenno Kural, who was Samburu provincial governor when the crimes were allegedly committed, had a conflict of interest.
The magistrate relied on more than 200 payment vouchers as evidence of Lenolkulal’s direct trade with the county.
He said his integrity was compromised because of personal gain.
Lennokural was detained overnight after being refused bail and is expected to be sentenced today.
In the same anti-corruption court, pre-trial directions are coming up in the case against oil tycoon Yagnesh Devani.
Earlier this month, Dewani was charged with corruption-related offences in connection with the 2009 Sh7 billion Triton oil scandal.
He was released on bail of Sh20 million, with a further Sh5 million bond required.
In another anti-corruption court, the corruption case against former Migori Governor, Okoth Obado, is scheduled to proceed to inter partes before Chief Justice Celesa Okore.
