The University of Malawi has awarded Mozambican leader Filipe Jacinto an honorary degree in international relations, with Malawian leader President Lazarus Chakwera describing him as an outstanding leader and champion of hope.
Speaking at Zomba Chakwera, Nyusi said he deserved the honour because of his hard work and humility.
“Today, we gather to recognize an exceptional leader, a champion and a beacon of hope for humanity. It is my great honor to present to my respected Excellency Filipe Jacinto Nyusi the Medal of Honor, the highest honor our university can bestow upon a head of state,” he said.
Chakwera reminded Nyusi that the university had handed out the Honorary Award for the third time in its 59 years of existence, which was a testament to the fact that the university respected standards and only rewarded those who truly excelled for their achievements.
He said the award, in addition to recognizing individual achievements, also honors the friendly relations between the two governments and peoples.
“This is a celebration of a new chapter in the friendly relations between Malawi and Mozambique, the President
“His leadership has been vital. So by bestowing this recognition on him, we acknowledge that our cooperation towards deeper collaboration, mutual understanding and shared prosperity continues,” he said.
During the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate in International Affairs and Diplomacy at the University of Malawi, Zomba, Chakwera highlighted Nyusi’s efforts to transform Malawi’s diplomatic relations with Mozambique, stressing the cooperation between the two countries in security, trade and cultural exchanges.
Chakwera described the award as a symbol of a new era of deepening cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mozambique, Professor Samson Sajidu, also commended Nyusi for his outstanding service and contribution and pledged further collaboration with the University of Mozambique, praising Nyusi as an exemplary scholar and global citizen.
