Less than 24 hours after being sacked as general manager of Clifton Heritage National Park by Prime Minister Philip Davis, Mario Bannister, 62, appeared in court on suspicion of murder.
Earlier this month, Bannister was charged along with Dontee Riley, 26, and Christian Napier, 28, with the murder of Philip Adderley, who was bound and stabbed to death.
Bannister was charged with being an accomplice to the crime, while Riley and Napier were charged with murder.
They did not have to enter a plea to the charges when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Judge Roberto Reckley.
A brief statement from the prime minister’s office said only: “Prime Minister Davis has directed that Mr Mario Bannister be removed from his position as managing director of Clifton Heritage with immediate effect.” No further details were given in the statement.

Clifton Heritage is a 208-acre national park on the western end of New Providence Island in the Bahamas.
Riley and Napier allegedly killed 36-year-old Adderley on Aug. 14, while Bannister helped the suspects evade justice on Aug. 15, the same day Adderley’s body was found partially submerged in water near an abandoned building near Stewarts Bay.
The three defendants were told their cases would be referred to Supreme Court By way of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI), the chief magistrate said he could not grant them bail due to the nature of the offence.
The VBI will be delivered on February 13, 2025.
