Muhammad Salim Uddin Aamir, a member of the Central Executive Committee of Jamiat-e-Islami Party and North Dhaka Metropolitan Area, said that scholars and ulema are the guides of the umma and the best children of the country. Therefore, to make the student movement meaningful and sustainable, the awakened academic community across the country needs to play the role of an independent watchdog.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a forum on the role of clergy and ulema in the formation of a new Bangladesh after the victory of the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital Mirpur on Tuesday (August 27).
Salim Uddin, chaired by Shura member and Dhaka Metropolitan North Zone Assistant Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman and Metropolitan Working Committee member Mustafizur Rahman, said the contributions of Mir Nisar Ali Titu Mir and Haji Shariatullah enriched and made the entire Muslim world proud. The historical role played by Aleem Samaj in anti-British movements including the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 will go down in history. Aleem Samaj was always outspoken and uncompromising during any period of transition for the country and the nation. They guided the country in the right direction through Bayan and Waj Mahfil.
Salim claimed that even in the recent movement, our clergy society has inspired the student union in many ways and the role of the clergy has led the movement to the path of peace and victory. Therefore, Alem Samaj must play the role of a guardian and bring this victory to the doorstep of the people.
He said that in the last 16 years of the people’s rule, scholars in the country were oppressed in various ways. They could not carry out the invitation task smoothly. They were not even allowed to perform waj mahfil across the country. However, they did not give up, but ignored the bloodshot eyes of the oppressors and continued to fight hard to convey the call of Haqq in the religion to everyone. For this, they had to endure torture in prisons. Fascists and chauvinists also hanged and killed many scholars. But despite this, they were not suppressed, but continued to carry out the invitation and welfare activities of scholars regardless of all oppression.
He also said that the synchronized actions of students and people have brought us a great victory. This is incredible. Many people thought it was unimaginable. But our new generation has been able to accomplish the impossible. They want to use this victory to build a just society in the country. But the academic community must work tirelessly to inspire students to understand what the standard of justice is.
