The 50th edition of the annual Cinema Guild Festival of Egyptian Cinema, in partnership with the Federation of Artistic Syndicates and the Syndicate of Film and Acting Professions, features the great artist Salah Sadani, the great director Essam Al-Shamaa and the critic Nader Adly.
The ceremony was attended by director Omar Abdel Aziz, Art Union president, director of photography and director Mohsen Ahmed, director Hani Rahim, critic Magda Morris, critic and journalist Saeed Mahmoud, Ahmed Shamaa and writer Mohammed Shamaa from the family of the late writer and director Issam Al-Shamaa.
The director of the festival, Senior Director of Photography Mahmoud Abdel Sami, stated that the Film Institute Festival and previous festivals do not miss the emergency situations that occurred during the preparation or during the year, and we are interested in getting rid of the difficult situation and paying attention to the deceased creative people who influenced Egyptian cinema as a form of evaluation and honor for them, adding, “We thank those who have passed away, and this is the role of the Film Institute, to participate in all activities of Egyptian cinema.” He called on directors Omar Abdel Aziz and Said Mahmoud to hand over their certificates.
Sayyid Mahmoud said: “Fate wanted all three to be people of the same character, gentle, non-confrontational. I participated in the shooting of the show and you will not find any of them in conflict or problems with anyone. The Global Age) and Issam Sharma, who invited me to participate, Salah’s uncle, said (Almighty God) look at us we will do something different for Issam Sharma, we will have Haitham Ahmed Zaki, my son Ahmed, Mahmoud Abdul Aziz’s son Karim and Issam Sharma’s son Ahmed However, Haitham ran away and Salah’s uncle spoke to the star Ahmed Zaki, who apologized to him because Haitham was afraid of the experience.
Sayyid continued: “Salah Sadani cared about everyone around him, all the artists considered him a brother, not just an actor, because outside the framework of performance, you considered him your family and your home, and the same is true for Issam Al-Shamaa, I feel that they are not rewarded as they deserve, especially Issam Al-Shamaa, who does not propose similar work. Secondly, or Nader Adly, if you read his articles, you will not find him. He attacks a person for himself, he is no different from the projector of the film, his colleague, who started his career halfway around the world, the three are a similar combination, humanity is above everything for them. “.
Omar Abdel Aziz handed over a certificate from the film industry with the names of the deceased, Ahmed Shama accepted a certificate from his father, Omar Abdel Aziz received a certificate from Salah Sadani, and Sayyid Mahmoud received a certificate from Nader Adly. Abdel Samie presented the Film Association with a letter of appreciation with the names of the three people and said: “The deceased had a very good relationship with the Film Association, the Film Association Festival, and the entire Egyptian film industry. “Sadani received awards from the festival and was honored during his lifetime. We were in the Cairo Cinema in the city center, and he gave a wonderful speech about the Film Association Festival, the association and our activities in a brotherly and family-like way. Adly was a member of the jury for many years and one of the most important people who wrote about the festival during his lifetime. As for Issam Shama, there were no festival meetings when he created his work. He did not participate. They had a very good relationship with the film industry and this festival in particular. “
Abdul Sami noted that Issam Sharma’s children were affected by his death and would not be able to talk about him at the memorial service. “He had a side that we didn’t know about, which was home and family. And his life among you, we would love to hear about him.”
Dr. Mustafa Abbas, a friend of Essam Al-Shamaa, spoke at the memorial service, noting that Essam Al-Shamaa was his classmate when he studied medicine at Ain Shams University, and he spoke about their relationship during their studies, explaining: “Many creative people present here may miss the time of university and study, which is a period that witnesses the initial sprouts of creativity. “The late beautiful Essam Al-Shamaa, who is Essam Al-Shamaa, who are we? A group of students of the Ain Shams Medical College, we came together for something important, that is, love for the motherland, when Islamic groups raised white weapons to attack us simply because of the publication of the newspaper “Jidar”, and we learned about cultural activities that brought us together. With the support of the late Ali Abu Shadi, we did a lot of theater, literary activities, as well as movies. He was a lover of Abdul Nasser, a leader, thinker and philosopher, I predicted that he would become a screenwriter, and I never discussed “something” with him.
Fighting back tears, he continued: “He was an idol to many people, and I hope he can leave, leaving love and salt in all of our hearts.”
He said some words of mourning, some of which he said: “Do not think that we have forgotten the dead, or that the sorrow has disappeared, but they will hide and come back again, beware of those who believe that death will take them. The living, we are still alive, the dead are more alive than those who came before us, it is difficult to say goodbye, oh, but this is our life.” Walking and saying goodbye to each other, on the way of farewell, the taste of separation is indescribable, but we feel it, this sentence says: “Death has no appointment, but the presence is overwhelming.”
Critic Magda Morris gave a speech and she said: “I can’t stop myself from talking about these three people, but I will focus more on Essam Sharma, who didn’t work for a while before his death, which is a strange phenomenon. “For a creator like him, we are surprised that he is showing this film (Tala’ Al-Nakhl), he is one of the…TV movies, a strange, new, different and wonderful film, in which questions are raised. It is about farmers and talks about schistosomiasis, co-starring Firdous Abdel Hamid, Abdullah Mahmoud and Salah Sadani, a very deep, sensitive and touching film, this writer actually has a complete understanding of what is going on. Then he introduced some important things, including the film “Alagoas” starring the star Omar Sharif and the director Hani Rasin, which is one of the most beautiful and wonderful films that show and analyze different characters, Essam is busy discussing the issue of social change. He deserves a lot, we must include him in the list of the best writers who present important works on Egyptian society. “
Speaking about Sadani, she said: “We all loved Salah, had a passion for him, we met him once, twice, three times in the series ‘Men in the Age of Globalization’. Show mercy to them and to my colleague Nader Adly, who was respectable, very polite, did not write a single word in his articles that was inappropriate, and when he was attacked he did not respond in a psychologically harmful way. “This kind of character no longer exists among us. Nader was an excellent, polite man and an excellent writer. During his time as head of the art department of Al-Ahram newspaper, that period was one of the best for this section. . May God have mercy on these three men, we have lost very good people. “
Critic Samir Shehata spoke: “I thank the great artist Professor Mahmoud Abdel Samie for organizing this important evening, when it was announced I found a festival director asking the reason for organizing this evening and a journalist responded by making a comment to him (Will the evening bring them back to life?) and I said (Oh.)”, he spoke about the folklore that exists in one of the countries where every year a day is set aside to honor the dead, and they imagine that in another world the dead are happy among flowers and orchards because in this world there is the presence of someone who remembers them.
Shehata said about Nader Adly and Essam Al-Shamaa: “We were friends, I often worked with Nader in Al-Ahram, and when Half the World was founded, they did not seek help from the art department. Nader Adly founded the Art and Film Review Department, and Al-Ahram redeveloped the Film and Review page. He was a lover of cinema and a great follower of it. “In the era of Saad El-Din Wahba, he decided to create a newspaper about the films of the Cairo Film Festival, in which he would introduce films that had not yet been translated, and in which he would explain the best films to the audience. He was preceded in this by his colleague Abdel Razek, who was the head of the art department in the delegation and whose goal was not profit. In the era of Kamal Al-Malakh, Sami Al-Salamouni implemented this plan before him, at the opening of the Cairo Film Festival.
He added: “It is well known that Nader Adly is a member of the Egyptian Film Writers and Critics Association and a member of the Egyptian Film Writers and Critics Association. During 2011, there were rumors that artistic events could not be held during the Egyptian Film Writers and Critics Association. Nader and Essam enthusiastically said, “We can use the Alexandria Film Festival to talk about freedom and dignity. “It was because of this insistence that two very important things were carried out: the centenary of the birth of Naguib Mahfouz, which the festival was the only place to celebrate, as all activities were suspended, and the centenary of censorship. Nader said that after a hundred years, censorship is enough, especially because it was established for theater and has penetrated this field. Nader pointed out that he insisted on continuing the event until the end of the closing ceremony, noting that Essam Shama gave an important speech at the time about the people-based revolution. He said an important word at the closing ceremony. The performance of Christians and Muslims and their unity made the Egyptian flag fly high.
He continued, “Essam’s films ‘Alagoas’ and ‘Kaboria’ are considered one of the hallmarks of the Alexandria Film Festival.”
Syed Mahmoud concluded by thanking the Film Association of the Festival and the Festival’s President Mahmoud Abdel Sami and called on the festival to focus on the lives of creators rather than what happens after they leave.
