The demonstration was aimed at demanding the return of the land at the heart of the Réduit Triangle, which was promised to the movement by the MSM-MMM government in 2003. At the same time, the government awarded lease contracts to the Mauritius Tamil Cultural Centre Trust, the Hindi Union and the Urdu Union.
