Yesterday’s attack on Berat not only activated all structures of the DVP Berat. In this case, the Berat police questioned 3 people from the Kalosh tribe until the early hours of the morning, from which the assassination target killed Sokol Kalosh in 1997.

Mekina Berat District

Berat police questioned the deceased Sokol Kaloshi’s brother and his two grandsons, who were released after giving several hours of statements.

Altin Halili was assassinated yesterday afternoon on the way to the village of Dyshnik. The attackers were driving a Hunday Tuscon vehicle and, despite shooting at their target several times with Kalashnikovs, they were not even able to harm their target.

The bullet only hit the 46-year-old man’s car, shattering the rear window and back seat.

After the assassination attempt, Altin Khalili testified to the Berat police that he suspected the perpetrators were from the Kalosh tribe in the Gradishta area of Divjak city.

Khalili said he had not had any conflict with the others and that he paid for the murder in prison. The 46-year-old said before the investigation team that the assassination was in revenge for the 1997 murder.

Khalili told Berat police that he was passing by a private school in Berat on his way to meet a friend nearby when he saw three masked men ambush him.

Khalili saw them and sped up, trying to hit them with his car, but he couldn’t because they started shooting with Kalashnikovs.

Khalili said he was sitting under his seat and moved when he heard the car speeding away.

According to him, the assassins left thinking they had killed him. According to the police, the assassins shot him with a Scorpio machine gun while on foot and collected the bullets because they did not get out of the car at all.

Altin Halili was hit by 10 bullets, which hit the back of his car. Then, in the village of Kozare, Kuzova city, about 20 kilometers from the scene, the perpetrators burned their car, Hunday Tuscon.

While the investigation team is continuing its efforts to shed light on the incident, the agencies of the Fir and Berat Deputy Sheriffs have not yet succeeded in catching the perpetrators of the assassination, despite numerous checkpoints set up at every entrance and exit of towns and villages in Berat, Kuzovo and Fir.

The assassination target, Altin Khalili, was convicted for the murder of Sokol Kaloshi, which he committed in 1997. Altin Khalili was sentenced to 15 years in prison and was released from prison in 2010. After his release, Khalili fled to Italy, from where he has just returned.
