The police investigation follows a complaint filed last Thursday by Julien George, president of the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW), alleging mismanagement at the organisation’s kennels in Rose-Hill and Vallée-des-Prêtres. This lack of action gives the impression that the authorities are trying to evade responsibility rather than solve the problem.he said.
Reda Chamroo believes that MSAW must also explain millions of rupees in its budget for dog food, which seems to have disappeared. Member of Parliament Joanna Bérenger questioned the budget allocated for animal feeding during a parliamentary inquiry. According to the response provided, MSAW charged the Ministry of Agro-Industry 260 rupees per dog per day. However, reports show that only 0.92 cents was spent on each dog. “The estimated annual food budget is Rs 106 crore and questions are raised about where the money is going”Reda Chamroo protested. The activist pointed out that despite the legal obligation, MSAW has not submitted its accounts for many years. It called for a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
