Anderson, 29, told the JFK News that she goes through a seemingly safe routine every night — filling the machine with all the dirty dishes that have accumulated during the day from her husband, Paul, and their two children, Nora, 4, and Ansel, 1. -Sr.
But on August 7, the unexpected happened: The dishwasher caught fire. Within an hour of falling asleep, she was startled by the ringing of the family’s smoke detector, prompting her husband, Paul, to rush downstairs, only to find their kitchen “glowing orange” from flames. “He said it was a very surreal sight, the orange glow in the kitchen,” Anderson recalled, noting that her husband had gone to bed before her that fateful night. “He said there were flames coming from under and beside the dishwasher, and that the dishwasher was completely engulfed in flames.”
