Today, residents of the Podgorica settlement of Zabjelo, under Ljubović Mountain, blocked the road due to the restoration of the Democratic Unity Party.
In early April, the Constitutional Court annulled the capital’s parliament’s decision from 2020, which invalidated the Zabjelo-Ljubović detailed urban plan from 2009 and banned further construction in the area of Podgorica, sparking protests from locals.
The locals demanded a new plan because, as they claimed, the existing plan foresaw only residential buildings and a mere three percent green area.
Citizens gathered together holding banners that read “Bad plan – bad future” and “Humans deserve the right to space.”
Let us recall that the Constitutional Court’s decision was based on the fact that the decision to abolish the DUP did not fall within the jurisdiction of the capital.
At the initiative of the Rasovich family in 2020-2021, the Constitutional Court launched a review of Zabelo and Ljubovich’s decision to suspend the program.
The Rasovic family were natives of Zabelo, and some of the plots of land of the Democratic Unity Party Zabelo-Lyubovich belonged to them.
Their reason for this initiative is that construction on their plots has become impossible with the abolition of the DUP.
