Abel Tesse gained a lot of experience at these World Championships.

Mauritius represented the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) for the first time at the 45th World Armwrestling Championships in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, and as promised, paved the way for Mauritian armwrestlers. Last weekend, Abel Thésée competed in the -100 kg category in both right and left arm, ultimately finishing 14th in the world in right arm out of 26 competitors.

A few days before the competition, our compatriot arrived in Moldova alone, joined 1,500 competitors from about 60 countries, and appeared as one of the little fingers in this global event that brought together the best satirists in the world. What’s more, his -100 kg category was very difficult, as it was attended by experienced players, such as the reigning world champion in the right arm Yesbolat Karzhau from Kazakhstan.

If the other participants were able to communicate and share their experiences with the Mauritian steelworker, the camaraderie of each participant would soon give way to a competitive spirit over the weekend. Abel Tessai started his tournament on Friday with a left-armer and he quickly found a high level of discipline, losing to Kazakhstan’s Artyom Supanev from the start before going out with a left-armer and losing again to Ukraine’s Ihor Pasieka.

On the second day, Abel gave a better performance on the right arm, which should be the most dominant arm among iron players. After a long duel with the Japanese player Ryuichi Mikami, who showed obvious controversy in his first exchange with the referee, the Mauritian played a good duel despite losing again on the seventh table. He returned to the same table again and faced the finalist of the right side, the Kazakh Yesbolat Karzau, and won, not surprisingly.

The Mauritian believed that the match was over as it had been the day before and therefore missed the match against Cameroonian Inoussa Mourou The last player finished the match with a world ranking of 8th, while Abel Thésée finished the match with his right arm and finished with a world ranking of 14th. “A very good experience, very happy with a lot of very difficult friction. I was able to face former world champions and others who were or eventually were in the top three or five in the world. It’s a real honour to represent Mauritius and bring back everything I saw and understood on the island so that we can leave next year with a better delegation.”Abel Theseus declared.

The latter, while paying tribute to the arm wrestling practitioners of Mauritius, also thanked Javed Bunoo and the Mauritius Arm Wrestling Association. “Mauritius played with a 14th in the right arm today and that shows we have potential and we can really score runs””, he concluded, appealing to all those who want to explore the sport of arm wrestling.
