–Dr Sukhai reiterates his commitment to the Bissondyal Singh-led government
In response to an article published in the Guyana Chronicle on August 23, 2024, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has addressed and corrected several inaccuracies that appeared in the public domain.
According to a press release, the GCB seeks to clarify the situation regarding its treasurer, Dr. Brian Sukhai, and a long-time employee who has dedicated more than 30 years of distinguished service to the board.
The article published in the sports section erroneously stated that Dr Sukay had resigned from GCB and his last working day was set to be August 31, 2024.
“GCB formally denies the claim and calls it completely baseless and made with malicious intent,” the cricket board said.
In his disclaimer, Dr. Sukay stated: “I express surprise at this false report and hereby confirm my unwavering continued support for the Board led by Bisendyar Singh. Since taking on the role of Treasurer in 2021, I have worked tirelessly to strengthen the financial management of the Board and have made significant progress with the support of a dedicated and professional team of full-time staff in the Board Office.”
In addition, the article implied that a long-serving GCB employee had resigned. In fact, the employee, who had served on the board for more than 30 years, voluntarily retired and did not resign as falsely reported.
The Central Bank of Nigeria said: “While it is true that Vice President Azad Ibrahim has resigned, he did so voluntarily.”
The Guyana Cricket Board has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability and stressed the importance of verifying information before it is released to prevent misleading the public and stakeholders in Guyana’s cricket community.
