Floods: Transitional President absorbs the capacity of the Crisis Management Coordination Centre (CECOGEC)

The Transitional President, Head of State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Colonel Assimi Goita, visited the Crisis Management Coordination Center (CECOGEC) on Thursday, August 22, 2024, as part of an assessment of the flood situation at the aforementioned center. He was accompanied by the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Dr. Jogel Kokara Mecca, the Chairman of the National Transitional Council, Colonel Malik Diwa, and government members of the Inter-ministerial Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management.

The visit was also attended by Bamako district authorities, elected officials of the communes, the Central Director of the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection, and other senior figures. The Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Brigadier General Daoud Aly Mohammedine, Permanent Secretary of the Interministerial Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management, had the honor of presenting the head of CECOGEC, Colonel Dr. Issa Raoul Dana DABO, SP, who gave a brief presentation on CECOGEC. The Center took stock of flood prevention. It also discussed different aspects of crisis management throughout the country. After the presentation, the Presidential delegation will visit the command room of the Center. CECOGEC is the operational vehicle of the Interministerial Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management, which is now at the heart of the country’s flood management system.

The Transitional President has therefore accorded a certain interest to this visit, which, in his words, gave him “the opportunity to verbally congratulate and encourage all the men and women who are carrying out rescue and assistance to our compatriots in extremely difficult conditions. He praised the good coordination between the various ministries to meet the challenges of this difficult period. However, he urged them to have greater determination and commitment. Colonel Assimi Goita also called on his compatriots to remain vigilant and, above all, to respect the recommendations of the relevant authorities. He regretted the loss of life caused by the floods and took the opportunity to express his deep condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The Transitional President, Head of State, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Colonel Assimi Goita, has announced that in the coming days, the authorities will take other decisions to further strengthen the existing system. << Our duty is to ensure that the risk of material damage and loss of life is minimized.
