The Caye Caulker Police Department is in the news again – but this time officers say – they are the victims of abuse, not the detainees.
The story begins with a student having nearly $2,000 worth of electronics stolen from his boat on Caye Caulker. A 24-year-old Israeli student reported that someone had burglarized his fiberglass boat on Monday and stolen his digital camera, cell phone, and other items. Police found the camera on 18-year-old Belize City resident Sean Wade. He was taken into custody and yesterday morning in the police station holding cell, Wade was taken to the bathroom but refused to be taken back to his cell. Police struggled with him and claimed that Wade bit an officer’s finger. This was deemed “assault.” So now in addition to the theft charge, Wade is now in custody awaiting charges of “assault and aggravated assault.”
