The body of a sperm whale – or sperm whale to be exact – was found on the high seas on Thursday. According to reliable sources, upon seeing the body, National Coast Guard (NCG) has been alerted. “Since yesterday (editor’s note, Friday), fisheries officials have been on site to report to the Ministry of Fisheries. The question now is to determine the cause of death of the animal and decide on the fate of the carcass. Inspections for this purpose are still ongoing,” explained an official source in the department. She added that such discoveries are not uncommon, especially in Poudre-d’Or. “It is possible that the sperm whale died on the high seas and its carcass drifted here due to the bad weather since last weekend.”

According to records, sperm whales are easily identifiable: they have a large head and a prominent rounded forehead. Their heads contain a large amount of a substance called spermaceti, hence the name sperm whale.
