Elderly man dies in OW motorcycle accident

On the morning of Saturday, August 17, 2024, an elderly man was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Town of Orange Walk.

According to reports, around 10 a.m. on Saturday, Fermin Lobo, 67, was riding his motorcycle along Otro Benque Road in the direction of Trial Farm Village when he suddenly crashed into the left rear side of the metal carrier of a Meilun cargo bike, which was parked on the bike, reportedly owned by 26-year-old Hugo Vasquez.

As a result of the collision, Lobo was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered serious injuries. He died shortly after being taken to Northern Regional Hospital around 10:22 a.m.

According to ACP Hilberto Romero, Eastern District Commander of the Belize Police Department, a notice of intent to prosecute has been issued to Vasquez, pending the outcome of the investigation, as he had reportedly parked the cargo bike in the area shortly before the incident.
