PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The right-wing Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Islami (JI) wants Kabul and Islamabad to hold substantive talks on bilateral issues of importance.

Mujahideen Amir Hafiz Naimur Rahman told reporters in Peshawar on Friday that only meaningful dialogue could help improve strained relations between the neighbours.

He urged both sides to always keep the door open for negotiations, noting that relations between the two countries had deteriorated due to measures taken by a minority of rulers.

On the other hand, he explained that the two countries have supported each other for nearly 45 years and stressed the need to end the current unpleasant situation.

Regarding the impending military offensive against Pakistan-based militants, the JI chief said his party’s stand on the issue was clear.

He believes that military action is not the solution to radicalism and asked the Pakistani government to spend money where it is needed.

The JI chief claimed that operations against militants in the former tribal areas have begun amid reports of use of fighter jets.
