Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday and delivered a message of unity.
“I accept the nomination on behalf of the people, on behalf of every American, regardless of party, race, gender or the language their grandmother used,” said the 59-year-old vice president, who pledged to lead the country on “a new” path.
Harris pledged to reform the country’s “broken immigration system” and not be trapped in the dilemma of choosing between a secure border and a plan to address immigration issues in a more humanitarian way.

“I believe we can do justice to our heritage as a nation of immigrants and reform our broken immigration system,” the leader said in a speech accepting the Democratic nomination at the party’s convention in Chicago.
The vice president in turn pledged to revive and make permanent into law a controversial immigration deal that was reached on a bipartisan basis and included the biggest curbs on the asylum system in years.
“I refuse to play politics with our security, and here’s my commitment: As president, I will restore the bipartisan border security bill,” Harris insisted to the boisterous crowd, who welcomed her with cheers and applause on stage.
