Twelve Japanese nationals were taken into protective custody by Cambodian police after being forced to work in Cambodia’s southeastern province, a local police source told Kyodo News on Wednesday.
Sources said the 12 refugees were given false information about high-paying and easy jobs in Cambodia and travelled to Bavet in Svay Rieng province on the Vietnamese border.
According to Cambodian authorities, they were suspected of being forced to work for an online fraud gang.
