A new study has been done at UCSF using an implanted device to treat Parkinson’s disease. Suggested in the brain. The device can help with patients’ daytime movement problems and nighttime insomnia; and it works adaptively, unlike previous static approaches.
The approach, called adaptive deep brain stimulation (aDBS), uses an AI-derived method to monitor brain activity as patients’ symptoms change, and could help with movement problems by monitoring brain activity and adjusting electrical impulses based on symptoms, such as daytime insomnia and nighttime sleeplessness.
