Yesterday, it was time to count the defendants in one of the most complex and brutal criminal cases in Tehran in recent years. The defendants accused of the horrific murder of Dr. Ziaei and his wife defended themselves in court. In mid-May 1402, a young man reported to the police the sudden disappearance of his uncle and his wife, and it turned out that the missing were Dr. Reza Ziaei, an ENT specialist, and his wife Mino Saberi, a PhD in Economics.
With the release of this report, detectives from the 11th Bureau of the Tehran Police launched an investigation to find traces of the missing person and found that the doctor’s 1,000-meter villa on Zamin Street in Iran was registered some time ago. A person’s name, but no money was deposited into the doctor’s account. The impact of the theft of the doctor and his wife’s apartment in Werenjack and the theft of the doctor’s Santa Fe car by three strangers is obvious.
Thus, the license plate number of the stolen car was released to the patrol, and a father and son from a city far from Tehran were arrested while using the car. At the first meeting with the criminals, the father and son confessed that they buried the bodies of the doctor and his wife near Akhtarabad Karaj on the orders of a young man named Sorush. Based on the information they provided to the agents, the bodies were found.
In addition, the transferee of Dr. Ziaei’s house was also arrested, and he admitted that he bought the house on the instructions of a person named Soroush, and said that he did not know the payment method and amount. House. In this way, Soroush was identified and arrested, and it was also found that he, with the connivance of several people, transferred the documents of the victim’s villa to other names with the help of false documents, and then designed and carried out the murder. Plan, all those who participated in the criminal plan were identified and arrested. According to the legal procedures of the case and the issuance of the indictment, the defendant was tried in the Tenth Court of the Criminal Court of Tehran Province.
In court
The case was heard twice in the auditorium of the Tehran Provincial Criminal Court over two consecutive days. At the beginning of the trial, the prosecutor’s representative read out the indictment issued by the Tehran Criminal Prosecutor’s Office, which clearly stated the charges against all the defendants appearing in court.
Later, the lawyer for the deceased’s parents (i.e. the children of the victim, who are residents of the United States of America) stated: “The deceased’s parents demand severe punishment for each defendant in this case, and they also demand revenge on the defendant who killed their father.” The lawyer for Dem’s parents continued: “According to calculations, the defendant stole about 10 billion Tomans from the victim, and we also demand compensation.”
He said shoot, I shot too
Then it was the turn of a man named Mahmoud, who was arrested along with his son. He initially tried to identify Soroush as the gunman, but later admitted that he had shot and killed a middle-aged couple on Soroush’s orders. Mahmoud explained the details of the incident in court, defending his charge of premeditated murder: “I accept my charge,” he said. “I am the one who shot and killed Dr. Ziai and his wife.”
The defendant continued his acquaintance with Sorush as follows: “Not long ago, a friend of mine and I found a treasure in a village near our hometown. But we didn’t know how to get the gold coins close to money. We wanted to find a reliable person, so my son suggested that we go to Tehran from the city and show the coins to a man named Sorush. “Sorush and my son have been friends for some time, and I once got a driver’s license for him. ”
Mahmoud handed the coins to Sorush and received a guaranteed check for $5 billion in return: “Some time passed and Sorush did not cash the check until one day he called me and asked me to go to him to talk about the check. I went to Tehran with my sister-in-law. On the day of the accident, my sister-in-law and I called Hamid and my son Iman; we went to the address given by Sorush. He asked me to go into his house alone. He had told me about a dispute with some people and made me promise to buy me a house and help him out of the dispute. But I was scared and took Hamid inside, but my son was waiting for us outside.”
The defendant talked about the day of the incident: “That day, Sorush said that two guests were coming to see him, and he said that if he asked me to do anything, he would pass the salary check and the treasure check together. Then he gave me and my sister-in-law a drink with pills and alcohol, and we were all a little passed out. Then he gave us two guns and asked us to hide in the bathroom in the basement. He had been dating the victims and wanted to drag them here under the pretext of showing the renovation of their basement. A few minutes later, when the doctor and his wife came in, he called us. Sorush asked me to shoot them. At that time, I was in an abnormal state and closed my eyes. I shot the lady in the head first, and then shot the doctor.”
In his last defence, the accused said: “I am a poor, unfortunate man and I ask my parents to forgive me because my daughter is ill.”

Next, Sorush, who was accused of being an accomplice to murder and participating in the transfer of other people’s property, explained the matter in his defense and said: “I met the doctor in February, a year before the crime. I have been a resident of the Sadat Abad community for many years and I wanted to buy a villa in the area. The doctor also sold his villa in that area, and I told him that my money was not ready. He decided to rent the house to me for three months, after which he would provide the full amount and put the title deed in my name.
The doctor asked me to pay him the rest of the house money in Bitcoin and Tether. I settled the house payment with him before Eid and he also put the bill in my name, but as the price of Bitcoin went up, the doctor complained about the transaction and said you should settle the house payment with me at a daily rate. That’s why I went to a person and asked him to arrange the house deed by setting up a power of attorney. Because the doctor was not willing to transfer the documents. But later I found out that the forgers had transferred the entire house to my name.”
“Mahmood and his son were my drivers. Mahmoud noticed the difference between the doctor and me during the telephone conversation. He suggested that we threaten the doctor with a gun. I didn’t expect that he would shoot the doctor and his wife on the day of the incident,” the accused said of the day of the incident.
Statement from a deputy homicide detective
Sohrab and Saman are the names of the uncle and nephew involved in the scheme. During the trial, Sohrab defended himself by saying, “I do not accept the deputy prosecutor’s allegations. Some time ago, my long-time friend Sorush said that he bought a house in Sadat Abad and wanted to renovate it. He sought my help for the renovation work, but after some time he changed his mind and said that because the house was next to Babak Zanjani’s excavated land, he wanted to sell it. But he said that he had a dispute with the owner and had already paid it, so he wanted to act as an agent to sell the land. For this purpose, I set up a power of attorney in my name with the help of one or two friends, and then we transferred the property to those people twice.”
The defendant said about the day of the incident: “That day, I didn’t know what happened in the villa. I was watching the Persepolis game at home, and then I went to visit my friend to pay me back the $100 he owed me. Then Sorush called me and said he had a guest and asked me to buy him chicken and coal. I bought these things and sent them to him at the villa. “
“Investigations revealed that you bought glue and plastic that day and walked past the body to ask Sorushi for fingerprints,” the judge told the defendant. “In addition, you also tried to stamp your and the victim’s passports to leave the country.” The defendant denied the questions.
He then talked about the robbery of the doctor’s house two days after the murder: “Sorush asked Iman and me to go to his house to take away the documents from the doctor’s house and his car. I also took my brother’s son Saman with me because he was a good driver.”
Later, Saman, who attacked and injured the officer during the arrest, defended himself, saying: “I do not accept the charges against me because my uncle told me that the house in Weranjak belongs to Sorush’s uncle.” “When I was arrested, my reaction to the police was instinctive and I did not want to hurt him.”
Uncovering the secrets of the other two defendants
Iman and Hamid are the other two defendants who revealed the truth in this case. Iman said in his defense: “My relationship with Sorushi started on Instagram a few years ago. My father had a friend who could get Sorushi a driver’s license without him taking driving lessons, and Sorushi’s way of doing things was to pay others to do his job. For example, get him a driver’s license, or kill him!”
The accused went on to say, “Sorush used to give me money under various pretexts and so-called extortion. “On the day of the incident, when my father went to their house, Sorush came out about an hour later and said that something had happened and if I helped him, he would support me for the rest of my life. He made such promises to shut me up. When we entered the house together, I was faced with dead bodies. Sorush asked my father to throw them in the well and poured acid on them, but my father felt sorry for the dead bodies and told us to bury them. Then, he and Hamid collected the bodies and we took them around Akhtarabad and buried them near the river.”
As the next defendant, Hamid said in the story: “Mahmood told me that he wanted to collect his request from someone. Then he said that a person in Tehran could provide him with a loan of 400 million tomans, and if I went with him, he was willing to give me a loan of 200 tomans. I accepted it. When we entered the villa, I knew nothing. Sorush gave us a glass of wine, then asked us to put guns on our waists and go to the bathroom. Every time I wanted to ask a question, he said don’t say anything, these are armed and dangerous people. Then suddenly Sorush shouted, shoot! We also left the bathroom. Mahmoud walked forward, I was behind him, and he suddenly shot a man and a woman.”
At the end of the trial, the four defendants who participated in the transfer of documents to others also presented their defense.
With the defendant’s final defense and the appearance of his lawyer, the trial was declared over and the judges entered the court to pronounce the verdict.
